STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN IRS REFUND AFTER 2.5 MONTHS?

30 Aug

I sent my refund in by mail on Feb 9th. They said they did not get it until March. It is now April and they said I will not get it until the middle of May. THAT’S OVER 3 MONTHS!! They said I missed a signature and it sat in “errors” for 30 days. How can I get this taken care of quicker? Or get the IRS abolished, one of the 2 would be fine.

My wife has a payroll garnishment of 85% of her pay. After taxes she has a net amount of 0.?

17 Aug

How will this affect her tax return next year if she is not receiving any pay after the garnishment? Will she be able to get back most of the fed tax withholding next year because she receives no pay at this time. Thanks

When the spot price decreases after I write a covered call is there a point at which I can nearly break even?

05 Aug

I’ve been looking at writing a covered call. If I do this and the spot price goes down I will be losing money since my stock is losing value. I will still have the premium from writing the call.

If I understand things correctly, the price of the call option will also be decreasing during this time for two reasons:

1. the call will be farther out of the money
2. the expiration date will be approaching

This means I will be able to close the option for less money than I received when writing it.

What I am wondering is if the option price ever drops fast enough that I can close the option and sell the stock before I have lost more than the premium I received from writing the option in the first place.

I am guessing this rarely happens, if ever, but I am not sure and am looking for more of an explanation of how this works.

I have read that the break-even point is
purchase price of stock – premium received

I’m not sure why I feel like there should be a break-even point slightly higher with the cost of the option figured in as well. Something like

purchase price of stock – premium received + current option price

I’m sure this all sounds silly to anyone who understands things better but please bear with me- I’m trying to learn here.

I’ll try to give an example of what I’m thinking of.

Say the purchase price of the stock was $50 and the premium was $5.

I understand that when the stock price reaches $45 that the premium is now lost. If this was expiration day it makes complete sense that this is the break-even point.

However, if it is not yet expiration day then it might cost $1 to close the position meaning that break-even would have been at $46. Yet at $46 it would have cost even more to close the position…

I’m guessing these numbers constantly chase each other. Are there any specific ways traders look at situations like these to limit their losses?

For instance, if the trade $50 purchase with $5 premium was a real trade, are there specific strategies which would suggest selling before the break-even point while closing the position instead of waiting until after the break-even point?

I’d love to see the pros and cons of doing either of those and learn more about this.

Thanks!

What happens to CitiGroup stocks,CITGQ.PK, after it was forced into bankruptcy last December 10?

31 Jul

I had 1000 shares of CitiGroup and then I believe it went to $0. I didn’t even notice it until it was not in my portfolio in Fidelity anymore. Do I still have a chance to recover my investment? I believe I lost $3000.

In chapter 13 bankruptcy, are payroll deductions(garnishment) before or after taxes?

21 Jul

I have just filled for bankruptcy and know they will be garnishing payments from my pay check. I was just wondering if any one could tell me if it is before or after federal taxes and FICA and medicare deductions. I live in Tennessee if that helps.
I am trying to get an idea of what my take home pay will be now— for budgeting purposes.

What is the best online broker to use for after hour (and before hours) trading?

19 Jul

What is the best online broker to use for before and after hour trading. I live in Hawaii and getting up at 3:30am every morning is getting tiresome. Plus before/after hours stock trading in my point of view is an unfair advantage….I’ll take advantage of the opportunity if given a chance.

Is there a problem with buying stocks for dividends, then selling them after the ex dividend date?

14 Jul

My strategy is to both buy and short the stock the day before the dividend payment. By both buying and shorting they will cancel each other out. Take the dividend and then cancel both of your trades. Basically, I’m guaranteed the dividend without a loss and only costing me the price of commission. What do you guys think about this? Do you know how these dividends will be taxed on my tax return?
